Your EV-Friendly Florida Road Trip Guide

Close-up of BMW car at Legacy Vacation Resorts
by Legacy Vacation Resorts Jan 30, 2023

Florida is the perfect place to enjoy it all. You can see some of the most beautiful landscapes in this country, as well as some of its most vibrant cities. It's the perfect destination for an eco-friendly road trip across the Sunshine State—and we've got just the itinerary for you! Palm Coast, St. Augustine, Orlando, Indian Shores, and St. Pete are just four of our favorite spots to visit in Florida, and they're all within a few hours' drive of each other. Here's what we recommend:

Day 1 - Legacy Vacation Resorts Palm Coast

The adventure begins in a pristine Old Florida-style destination. LVR Palm Coast is nestled along the banks of the Matanzas River and provides an immersive experience in nature for families of all ages. The property itself offers plenty of things to do from a gorgeous resort-style pool, mini-golf, nature walking path, outdoor games pavilion, and more. The spacious two-bedroom suites also boast full kitchens and a common living area so everyone can have the space to stretch out and relax. The local area serves up plenty of fun options for families including stunning beaches and parks (Washington Oaks Gardens is our favorite), whale-watching in season, miles of hiking and biking trails, and even a marine bioscience laboratory where kids can learn about local marine biology and witness sea turtle rehabilitation.
Charge point: On-site at the resort

Day 2 - Explore St. Augustine

Just over 30 minutes away lies America's Oldest City. Take a day trip to explore some of the best spots in town like the Fountain of Youth, Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas, Lightner Museum, and much more.
Charge point: Multiple ChargePoint and Tesla Destination Chargers available throughout St. Augustine

Day 3 - Depart for Legacy Vacation Resorts Kissimmee (99.9 miles)

Most electric vehicles will have this range and won't require charging until they reach the next property.
Charge point: 3400 Howland Blvd, Deltona, FL 32725, and a ChargePoint station at 620 Hickman Cir, Sanford, FL 32771

Arrive at LVR Kissimmee and get ready for the best Orlando has to offer. Check in and get comfy in your spacious two-bedroom suite with a full kitchen, then explore the grounds including a kid's splash pad, game room, sand volleyball court, sports courts, and more. The kids can swim in the resort-style pool while parents enjoy a refreshing cocktail and yummy snack from Tony's Bar and Grill. For dinner, head out to bustling Disney Springs for fantastic cuisine and even better shopping.
Charge point: On-site at the resort

Day 4 - Pick your Vacation Mood in Orlando

Sure, Orlando is known for their epic theme parks, but what some families don't realize is that there is another side to this town where you can enjoy a slower pace immersed in nature. Here are a few ideas for options in Orlando depending on your vacation mood!

Relax

  • Take a day trip to embrace tranquility at Bok Tower Gardens- found just under an hour away. Opened in 1929, the site features historic landscaped gardens, a unique Singing Tower carillon, and a 1930’s Mediterranean- style mansion.

  • Another great spot to unwind? Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando provides a scenic walking path, swan boat rides, local restaurants, and beautiful flower beds – the ideal spot for a lazy afternoon picnic.

Excite

  • The best way to spend an exciting day in Orlando? At the world-class theme parks, of course! Take your pick from the options of the four famed parks of Walt Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Legoland. Each of Legacy’s Central Florida resorts are mere minutes from the best action! Purchase your discounted theme park and attraction tickets here

  • Seeking some retail therapy or hunting for great deals? Some of the best shopping in the world is right here in Orlando! Enjoy the many shops of Disney Springs, a popular outdoor market and entertainment area featuring top brands, local finds, and an assortment of incredible restaurants. For the best in discount shopping, head to places like the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, Orlando International Premium Outlets, and the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets.

Explore

  • For a fun adventure in nature found close by, Shingle Creek Regional Park offers up an urban oasis at the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, featuring opportunities for bird watching, hiking, biking, paddling, and more.

  • The charming district of Historic Downtown Kissimmee is another great spot to take a stroll, especially along the 3-mile-long paved trail on the shores of Lake Tohopekaliga.

Day 5: Depart for Legacy Vacation Resorts Indian Shores (96.3 miles)

Similar to above, most electric vehicles will have this range and won't require charging until they reach the next property.
ChargePoint: 5202 Thonotosassa Rd, Plant City, FL 33565

Get ready for sand, surf, and some of the most beautiful sunsets in Florida. LVR Indian Shores serves up stunning Gulf Intracoastal Waterway views and the beauty of Florida’s West Coast beaches. Families can check in and get settled in their well-appointed, two-bedroom units before hitting the pool or beach to stretch their legs. When it's time for dinner, we love local eatery Salt Rock Grill for some of the freshest Gulf Seafood in town, then head over to John's Pass for a sunset stroll with a scoop of ice cream from Kilwin's.
Charge point: On-site at the resort

Day 6: Adventure to Downtown St. Pete.

A true gem, Downtown St. Pete is the best place to get a taste of the local culture. Here, you can take in the open-air museum of colorful murals that line the city's streets and back alleys along Central Avenue, then grab a bite to go from a local eatery (we absolutely love Bodega). If fine art is more your speed, enjoy world-class institutions such as The Dalí Museum, The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art, or the Museum of Fine Arts.
Another can’t-miss spot in Downtown– St. Pete Pier! This amazing new structure hovers above the bay and features art installations, restaurants, playground areas, a splash pad, a beach, and much more. Round out the adventures of the day with a tasty treat in North Straub Park under the shade of towering Banyan trees along the shoreline.
